Matthias Peukert has specialised in defending companies against criminal law suits as well as in the conduct of internal investigations and compliance projects. Furthermore, he advises and represents individuals in all areas of commercial criminal law.

Qualifications and education

Matthias Peukert has been a founding partner of Neuwerk since 2016. From 2012 until 2015, Matthias Peukert practiced law as a Senior Associate at ROXIN Rechtsanwaelte LLP in Hamburg, a law firm which solely focuses on commercial criminal law and tax criminal law. During this time he advised and represented clients in all areas of commercial criminal law and tax criminal law and supported international companies with regard to their Compliance Management Systems in different industries. Moreover, he gained mayor experience in carrying out internal investigations.

In 2014 Matthias Peukert received his doctorate from the Bucerius Law School in the field of commercial criminal law on the thesis “Strafbare Untreue zum Nachteil einer in Deutschland ansässigen Limited”, which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Thomas Rönnau.

Matthias Peukert undertook his legal clerkship at the “Hanseatischen Oberlandesgericht” in Hamburg with clerk stations e.g. at the auditing firm BDO in the specialist division for Forensic & Internal Audit Services, at the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in the practice group Dispute Resolution and as a scholarship holder of the Robert-Bosch-Stiftung at the German embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

After beeing a research assistant for Prof. Dr. Birgit Weitemeyer at the Institute for Foundation Law and the Law of Non-Profit-Organizations at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg Matthias Peukert completed as a scholarship holder of the DAAD a master’s degree at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2008.

He finished his studies of law with a focus on commercial criminal law at the Bucerius Law School in 2005. Part of his studies he absolved at the Université de Droit, d’Economie et des Sciences d’Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence, France.
